The Perfect Camera (for me)
So as you might have previously read on Phone Camera, I'm fairly interested in photography. And while my phone does a great job of being with me at every opportunity, I do love the extra features having a dedicated camera brings.
I have 3 film cameras and 1 digital camera, but all of these are fairly old and I'm thinking it's nearly time for an upgrade. Seeing as money doesn't go nearly as far as it used to, it's exceedingly important to make a good decision about the kind of camera I'd like to purchase.
But first, about my existing cameras.
I have 2 Canon film cameras, one Canon AE-1 and one Canon AE-1 Program. I do love these cameras and they're really fun to interchangeably use between me and my partner on photo walks.
My other film camera is a Nikon that was given to me by my father who decided to go digital a while ago (so I'm not exactly sure of its model name). I haven't had a chance to use this yet because both lenses are either delaminated or hazy. If I find myself a good Nikon lens in the future, I'll definitely want to check it out, but I really don't want to waste film if I can't help it.
My pride and joy first digital camera is the Mk 1 Sony a7s. 12MP and no stabilization built in, but it has given me the opportunity to get into a bit of astrophotography whenever I'm in a place with low light pollution. I payed full price for this camera when it came out and it's a bit disheartening to see I can buy a used one for $500 nowadays. Anyway, my camera replacement has to be substantially better than this camera. But I'll go more into exactly what features and price point a potential camera would have to hit to justify the decision.
My main goals is a really good travel camera (so is really good at both video as well as stills) as well as having a fairly good professional camera.
The Necessary features
Image Stabilization
At least 4k 60fps
Great "eye" autofocus
RAW photos
Some sort of LOG picture profile for video
Under $3000
USB-C Power Delivery
No electronic shutter
It would be nice to have
24+MP so I can feasibly use this for stills.
Dual card recording
Full frame
EVF
No overheating issues
So right now, the competition, at least among Sony cameras is the A7600 ($1500) and the FX2 ($2700). More on this later.
